In addition to phlebotomy, the CPT also facilitates the flow of information into and out of the lab by interacting with the public, using computer systems, delivering reports and answering phones and the mail.

High school graduate or equivalent. A phlebotomy certificate issued prior to April 9, 2003 from an approved phlebotomy training program or a phlebotomy credential signed by a California licensed physician or after April 9, 2003 a certificate or interim credential issued by California Laboratory Field Services for phlebotomy. One year's acute care hospital experience or ambulatory care setting preferred. Basic medical terminology, typing, math and computer skills. Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groups: Geriatric, Adult, Young Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal. Excellent interpersonal skills dealing with co-workers, patients, physicians, volunteers and hospital staff. Requires periods of standing, bending over, lifting supplies and the use of repetitive motions. Bilingual preferred.
